My son was diagnosed with Diabetes at age 12. He did not keep it under control until he was about 21. At that time, he worked hard to keep it under control... but a new problem came up. Every 3 months (almost to the day) he starts getting nauseated and vomiting to the point of dry heaves. We thought it was ketones, but the last few times his blood sugar and keytones are fine... He throws up and sleeps for 6 days and then all of a sudden he is fine, hungry and ready to go. 3 months later, with no warning, he is sick for 6 days... fine for 3 months etc.. This has gone on for 1 1/2 years.. He is having trouble with college because of absences.. He is afraid that he won't be able to keep up with school or job. I don't think a person should have to live like this. The doctors ran a gallbladder test and an intestinal bowel test. Any ideas? :confused:


has he been tested for celiac disease -- seems to be a routine testing now for type 1 diabetics (my college son is type 1 and has been tested). i'd insist on a blood panel for celiac and, even better, the endoscopy which will look for damage to the upper intestine -- the true sign of celiac. it's worth a try.

Does he consume caffeine in any form? Please tell me he does not.
Does he need insulin?


mpHe uses insulin two or three times a day and uses Lantus ( a long acting insulin at night) He drinks diet cokes. He eats mostly protein instead of carbs although he does eat carbs and some vegetables. He is 5'10 and weighs 140 and is down about 15 pounds from two years ago. I am not sure how much alchohol if any.

Hmm there is a number of things that he is doing that are really promoting disease.
*Aspartame or other artificial sweeteners
*Caffeine and diabetes
*Eating more than 35 grams of protein per day
*I am also aware that people who eat 80% or more of their food raw, are able to spring back from the insulin dependency.
*He might also have a lot of undigested protein or putrefied fats and protein in his colon. Which would cause malabsorption.
I know what is like to fall ill and abandon school and work just to stay home feeling miserable. I am sorry he had to be sick.
