I get Twins magazine and saw a cool study that they need participants in. It is a new study where they are trying to figure out why spontaneous twinning rates increase when women get pregnant for the 2nd, 3rd, etc. times. It looks like they are trying to also establish a possible connection between bf'ing and twin rates. Cool! :thumb It's just a few questions that you can e-mail the doctor doing the study your answers. Just copy and past these questions and e-mail your answers to: and put STUDY in the subject line.
1. What was your age at conception of your twins/triplets?
2. How many children had you delivered before the twins/triplets?
3. Were the twins/triplets monozygotic (identical) or dizygotic (fraternal)?
4. In total (all prior pregnancies combined), how many months had you breastfed before conceiving your twins/triplets? (Estimates are OK.)
5. If you did breastfeed, was it complete or combined with bottle-feeding?

I told him that I had read a small study a while back where they had found a connection between women who got pg while bf'ing and conceiving identical twins...I told him I'd found that study fascinating. He wrote me back and said that he'd done the study! Cool! :wink

As in, you apparently have enough food to go around, so here's 2 more! :lol No wonder I conceived twins naturally lol... I was addicted to macaroni & cheese while TTC! :D


I have wondered about the bfing and conceiving twins thing too since everyone I know with twins was bfing when they got pregnant. Can you point me in the direction of that study? I would love to read it.

I am actually surprised by how much they do mention bf'ing in that mag...and they have NO ads for formula! They do advertise that silly pillow that holds both bottles so you can feed your babies "hands free!" but I still give them huge kudos for nixing the ads. Anyway, I would bet that if you e-mailed the doctor doing this study and asked him for it that he would send you the other study. Let me know if he does...I'd like to read it again.

28wks with G/G twins My older dd was about 18-months-old and still bf'ing when I got pg with my MZ twins. I struggled with the decision to wean her or allow her to go on and tandem nurse (is it still called tandem nursing when there are three nursing?! :lol ) but finally decided to slowly wean her. She weaned over a 6 month time span and stopped about 1 1/2 months before her sisters were born. She did ask to nurse after they were here a couple of times. My twins self-weaned at 3 years 4 months!! :thumb
