Your skincare routine
Question: Do you have a daily routine for your face? Do you invest in good products or can't afford it/think it's a waste of money? Every morning (usually in the shower) I'll use a cleanser followed by a toner or serum if necessary and then moisturiser and sunscreen. In the evenings I'll remove make up if I'm wearing any and 3x per week will use some special face oils. I like to say I exfoliate once per week but I'm often really lazy and just forget. So what are some of your favourite brands and products and just how vain am I in comparison to you!? Answer: i have acne prone skin and have for most of my life so my skincare routine revolves largely around that. i wash with coalface soap and spray tea tree water toner (both from Lush) morning and night. in the morning i mix vitamin E moisture cream (from the Body Shop) about half and half with a 5% benzoyl peroxide cream and apply before putting on my makeup. at night instead of moisturizer i use a prescription gel that is an antibiotic/exfoliator. Answer: I personally think they are a waste of time. I don't have acne at all. I have a pimple about once a month. I have very oilly skin on my face though. I use plain ole soap. My face is normally oilly by the middle of the day though. I've used those special soaps and scrubs and they didn't do anything different. By the middle of the day my face is oilly. I've learned it's just me and since I have no pimmples from the oil I don't bother with the special soaps anymore. I didn't even have pimmples when I went through puberty. I've heard though the more oilly your skin is the less likely you are to have wrinkles later on in life. I'm only 20. To me they are a big waste of time. They may not be though to someone who has bad acne or some other annoying skin problem. Answer: i also have very oily skin. i use regular soap to wash every morning (estrella soap, in case anyone cares). then i put on beauty without cruelty (BWC) oil free moisturizer. if it isn't too humid i'll then add on BWC daily face lotion with spf 15. my face is usually oily again within an hour or two. i don't ever wear makeup or do anything other than that. Answer: I have very oily, very acne-prone skin, plus rosacea. For the last ten years or so I've been using prescription products like benzoyl peroxide and differin. Even with them I usually have a few pimples all the time and there is always a red rash from the rosacea. A few weeks ago I decided to try treating my acne naturally with a combination of vinegar washes and the oil cleansing method (a facial scrub of olive oil and almond oil, plus some lemon essential oil). My face broke out terribly, so now I'm back to the prescription stuff. I noticed that my face was a lot less oily when I was on the vinegar/OCM treatment. Now that I'm using all this drying stuff, my skin is overcompensating and my face shines horribly by mid-afternoon. I'm still experimenting to find the best medium. Right now I'm trying to use the olive/almond oil combination as a midday moisturizer, which seems to help. Answer: I have combination skin usually. I used to use a bunch of different chemicals and would put everything on my face. Now, I just use natural soap and moisterizer. I started using Dove Cloths to remove makeup since my sister gave them to me (they didn't work on her... I would never buy them myself). Nothing more than that. When I can't get all of my makeup off, I use Victoria's Secret Makeup remover (always for eye makeup). I definately think it's a good idea to invest in a good moisterizer. I've read that if you have a good one, you don't need to spend so much on cleansers and makeup because your skin will be in better condition. Plus, it's always good to get one with SPF. My usual routine: Morning: Wash my face with tea tree soap in the shower and moisturize when I get out. Night: Remove my makeup with Dove Cloths, use makeup remover is necessary, sometimes use natural soap for a quick clean, and moisturize. And yes, I admit that I'll pick at my face if I have a zit. It's a really bad habit, but cannot help myself! Can anyone recommend a good vegan moisterizer for my face that isn't too expensive? Answer: I used to clense and tone and all that crap and my skin would still break out (not horribly, but enough to notice) now i use this cleansing bar , kiss my face i think, i got from the health food store. i sometime have a face mask if i have the time, but noramally i forget. I also sometimes tone, but not much. I do wash my face alot though, before i got the barn, when i get back from the barn, then when i get back from my second job and sometimes before i go to bed. basically because the barn makes my face dusty and sweaty and my other job has alot of dust too. Answer: I think so many people have skin problems because they overdo it. Adding too many chemicals and washing too much takes away the natural oils in our skin that we need. I forgot to include that I exfoliate my face every few days in the shower with a scrubber :) Nothing too hard and I only use regular soap with it. Answer: I go over my face in the shower with a wet washcloth, just rubbing gently to remove any overnight goo. No soap or anything like that in the morning. I moisturize with neutragena stuff when I get out of the shower. After that absorbs, it's a light dusting of everday minerals foundation. At night I use a pond's facial cleansing wipe to remove the makeup.. and that's about it.
