Working out and P
Question: Hey Everybody, After I went home yesterday, I went back to the school gym and started working out. Right now, I'm sore all over, but that's not the point LOL . Does anybody know if there's a connection between lifting weights and p disappearing? Or how about stretch marks disappearing because I got some that go up around my shoulders and its making me self conscious. Answer: You know it's pretty weird that you posted this Quinn. I was just thinking about this the other day. I've gone back to becoming the workout queen and trying to get in shape, and was wondering what all the exercise would do to my P. So far, it only makes it more red. I haven't ever heard of a connection b/w weightlifting and P, and I don't think much can make stretch marks go away except time. They'll fade some I believe. I don't really like going to the gym b/c I have to wear all long sleeves and pants and I get SO HOT, but maybe that'll help me lose some weight! lol Even if the exercise doesn't help your P, it does great things for your body and it makes you feel better too :) So keep it up! ;) I'll try to keep it up with you. :) I started a yoga class, REALLY good for relaxing and relieving stress that could cause more P flares! Maybe it's not your thing, but a lot of men do it! I dunno, just a suggestion :p Answer: Hi Quinn, Like Renae, I was thinking about this the other day, too. I was diagnosed with P last week and haven't been able to work out due to the cracks on my feet. However, they have been feeling better so I started my racquetball, yoga and free weights. It feels good at first, but the next day I am red all over and the cracks are back! Fortunately, I do the weights and yoga at home, so that helps... with racquetball, I do have to wear long pants to hide my legs... I am hoping to have a faster weight loss because I am all covered up.. LOL Anyhow, I haven't noticed my P go away, it just gets worse, but again, it's only been 1 week since my diagnosis. Talk about immediate gratification! =) I hope this helps you. Good luck! Christine Answer: Thanks for the ideas, girls! I might consider trying yoga in the future to relieve even more stress. I go to an engineering school and they strongly recommended going to the gym to get rid of all the stress we get from the workload. I met two students yesterday who are going to my school and the older one lost 60 pounds since joining the gym! Well thanks for the advice and have a great weekend! :) Answer: Keep going guys, it will help you in more ways than you will ever know. Answer: I've been working out for years (3-4 days a week, several hours a day) and it does nothing for my P except 'cause the blood to flow to the skin... which makes it red... and even more red where the P is... and even makes anywhere there is hyperpigmentation even MORE red! Did I mention that I don't like the color red very much? I really prefer blue... Anywho... I've found that after you work out, if you take a nice COLD shower, your blood vessels chill out (literally) and the skin pigment returns closer to normal. You don't even need to take the entire shower cold, just slowly turn the hot off a little at a time so your body slowly accepts the cold water. It actually feels quite good, especially during these hot months. Keep exercising, it's so good for your body. -Steve Answer: Hi The only relation I find is that it does make you feel better . Having your body and muscles toned gives you another perception of well being , that might make you feel not annoyed by psoriasis. I noticed that .. See you . Vini Answer: My own experience is that a healthy diet with vigorous exercise does the trick. My willpower stinks, so there are times when i'll go out on a friday night, smoke cigs and drink booze. Within days, the result is major thick flare-ups -- roughly 30% of my bod, especially on my arms and face. Of course I get totally depressed, so I'll force myself to detox (no sugar, meat, coffee, flour, additive-rich foods, etc. -- all the stuff i luv :o ), then jump on my stationary bike and plug at it until i'm drenched in sweat -- about an hour a day -- plus a variety of lightweight exercises -- 10-15 pound dumb bells with many reps. After a week-10 days of this routine, i'm completely clear. How my body produces such large, pervasive lesions and then clears itself in such rapid time is astounding to me. Obviously not everyone has this good fortune, but i'd recommend everyone to give it a try if they haven't already. And like Vini mentioned, it just makes you feel good :) Answer: WOW Splat talk about going from one extreme to the other! LOL!! Welcome to our little corner of the net! The non-p people do not know what the are missing! This is THE place to be....I think... Answer: WOW Splat talk about going from one extreme to the other! LOL!! I'm either trashing myself like the world's gonna end tomorrow or training like i'm headed for the decathlon. Can't seem to find that balance  But thanks for the welcome!
